Following hot on the back of six straight wins and his disrespectful comments about crowds, Alan Pardew was well and truly pulled back down to earth by the Latics,
Goals from Moses (2), Maloney, and Di Santo sealed a terrific 4-0 win for the Latics who took Newcastle to pieces from the first minute.
The message to Alan Pardew was as strong as the desire of the Latics to pull away from the bottom three.
Now three points clear of relegation, subject to Q.P.R. and Blackburn results today, the Latics let Pardew know their feelings on the subject of the crowds.
In the week leading up to the fixture Alan Pardew had disrespectfully suggested that more tickets should be allocated to Newcastle supporters as they couldn't be sold to Wigan supporters.
A convincing 4-0 home win against his side was perhaps the best response to Pardew's comments.
The result left the former Reading and West Ham manager humbled. He said: "That's as good a team as we've faced in last seven or eight games.
"We just didn't match their intensity. Forget shape, systems and so on, intensity is everything in football.
"At Chelsea, we will show the intensity we're used to showing and give them a far stronger game."
"Look at the goals and some of their play - that was as good as we've faced. We talked about matching their fight but we could not do that.
"You'd have to say we got beat by the better team."
