Fabian Cubero has made over three hundred appearances for Velez Sarsfield and is currently the club captain. His agent has now linked the flamboyant midfielder with a move to Wigan.

At 30 years old, many may consider it too late for Cubero to make the move to Europe. However, the temptation to test himself in the greatest league in the worl could be too much to resist.

The players agent Christian Otero said: "This is something we have been working on for some time. He is massive in Argentina, because he is such a cult figure but also because he is a very, very good footballer.

"He is very dynamic and we do not see any issues with him being a big success in England."

Cubero would hope to become the latest in a lengthening line of South American footballers to hit the big time with Wigan Athletic.
