Boyce ready for Chelsea clash

By Paul Farrington
Tuesday, 22nd September 2009
Emmerson Boyce is ready for Saturday's clash with Chelsea but admits it is going to be difficult for the Latics to get anything from the game.
Speaking after the dismal performance against Arsenal at the weekend, Boyce told the club's official website: "We have to get Arsenal out of the way.

"People will have looked at this game as a bonus if we had come away with a result. So in theory it's not as bad as it looks, although the scoreline is obviously very hard to take.

"Attacking wise we're fine, but Arsenal managed to get through us a bit too easily. It's all part of learning. When we have the ball, I think we're as good as anyone at passing it around. We have to get hold of it more often and attack teams more, and that's what we'll be working on this week in training.

"Chelsea have a different way of playing than Arsenal, and with us being at home it will hopefully give us a bit more of an advantage."

The Barbadian defender also admitted that is is taking the team time to adjust to the changes imposed by new manager Roberto Martinez, and he further stressed the importance of picking up points during the transitional phase.

Boyce added: "The manager has introduced a new way of playing, and there have also been a lot of new players who have come into the squad.

"It will take time, as with anything, but the results speak for themselves, and we need to crack on and get as many points on the board as we can, because we don't want to be playing catch-up too early in the season.

"We're disappointed but we have to bounce back against Chelsea."
