Bruce commits future to Wigan

By Michael Goodman
Thursday, 19th February 2009
Steve Bruce has spoken out at the rumours which linked him with a move to the North East saying he is very happy at the club.

After Joe Kinnear went into surgery last week, many have suggested that Mike Ashley was looking to replace the former Wimbledon and Luton Town manager with Steve Bruce but this is simply not the case. Bruce has always fancied having a go at managing g either Manchester United or Newcastle United but has today denied rumours of leaving and committed his future to the club.

The talk of a move for Brue was strange as he has only recently broken the clubs record transfer fee to sign Charles N'Zogbia from Newcastle. Many will say that Bruce might have left the club due to the January sales of 5 key players which could be labelled as a lack of ambition but Bruce has always been aware that the bigger clubs will be looking at clubs like Wigan to sign players if they are performing well.

Speaking about the rumours linking him with Newcastle, Bruce told the Northern Echo

'Because I'm a Geordie every time the managerial situation at Newcastle is mentioned I'm always in there,'.

'I think it's a little bit disrespectful when their manager is going through what he is going through right now.

'I'm very, very happy here at Wigan and I have got a terrific job. There's nothing in it, I'm very happy here, that's all I can say.'

This is great news for the club who will now focus on trying to gain a vital win away at Middlesbrough on Saturday. It has been 5 games since the club last won and the game is huge if the club want to be taken seriously in their quest for European Football.
