After summer interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce has slapped an £18 million valuation on star midfielder Wilson Palacios.

The 24 year old signed for the Latics in January of this year and proved a revelation, going on to play a big role in the survival of the Latics last season.

Understandably, Bruce is keen to hold onto his star performer and has valued Palacios at £18 million, citing that he is in the same bracket as Aston Villa's Gareth Barry.

Bruce said: "When you see the fees being quoted, such as £18 million for Gareth Barry just because he plays for a more fashionable club, then that sets the level."

A clear message from the Latics boss who will not be bullied in the transfer market.
