Chelsea's Terry fit for Wigan clash

By Paul Farrington
Wednesday, 3rd January 2007
Champions Chelsea have been struggling recently without star player John Terry. The England centre back has had an operation on his back but is expected to return in time for Wigan's visit to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues narrowly escaped from the JJB Stadium with all three points in December. Only a last minute goal from Arjan Robben stole the points for a poor Chelsea side.

Now three draws later and Jose Mourinho will be delighted with the news that Terry should be fit to face the Latics on the 13th January.

It is not so good news for the Latics themselves who are in desperate scramble for points at the wrong end of the table.

Mourinho said: "This will be the last Premiership game Terry will miss. I think he will be back for the next (Premiership) game against Wigan."

The hope (from a Wigan point of view) is that Terry is being rushed back and will not be ready in time.

The Latics have doubts of their own with Henri Camara and Antonio Valencia facing a race for fitness. Midfielder Paul Scharner is expected to be out for upto eight weeks after ungoing an operation.

Camara injured medial knee ligaments against Sheffield United while Antonio Valencia tweaked a recurring hamstring injury and Scharner underwent surgery on his knee.
