Cotterill hoping for more action

By Paul Farrington
Tuesday, 8th January 2008
Twenty year old Wales international, David Cotterill is hoping his goal in the 3-0 victory over Sunderland will earn him more time on the pitch under Steve Bruce.
Fresh start: David Cotterill
Despite being dropped from the Wales squad and a string of poor performances at the end of last term, it would apear that Cotterill has had a change of heart after picking splinters out of his rear end.

In search of another chance in the blue and white of Wigan Athletic, he told the Wigan Evening Post: "Maybe I can stake a claim. I still have Antonio Valencia and Ryan Taylor in front of me and they have been doing extremely well.

"Any player is frustrated when they don't play, but hopefully I do have a future here. I'm enjoying working with the gaffer. He has brought fresh ideas in and all the lads enjoy the training.

"He wants us to work hard and definately gets the best out of the players as results have started to show. It was nice to get my first run out for a while at Sunderland, and nice to socre a goal too which finished the game off.

"Hopefully I did enough to show the manager I'm still about."

The Latics next face Derby County on Saturday at Pride Park where former manager Paul Jewell lies in wait.
