Haestad wants more money

By Paul Farrington
Wednesday, 3rd January 2007
Kristofer Haestad is already moaning about the salary he is being paid by Wigan Athletic. The 23 year old midfielder is unhappy with his current salary and has already announced that he wants to re-negotiate.

The terms of the current deal are that Haestad is on loan until the end of the season and should both parties agree he would become a permenant ficture at the JJB Stadium.

However the midfielder is unhappy with the current deal he has been offered. It is thought that should the Latics not improve the deal, Haestad is using the loan deal as a chance to put himself in the shop window for other clubs.

The Norwegian said: "[I am on] a very poor salary. The financial conditions could probably be better but I will renegotiate the salary, should I decide to stay."

A fee between IK Start and the Latics has already been agreed for the end of the season, but it would appear that there is a great deal of work needed if Haestad is to stay beyond his loan deal.

He turned down a move to Galatasaray in Turkey when he opted for Premirship Wigan. Haestad continued: "I would have earned substantially more if I had accepted the offer from Galatasaray."

"But to be honest, the financial aspect doesn't mean that much to me. I rather wanted to fulfil the dream I have always had. To get to play against the best in England is 100 times more important than earning millions."

He is expected to be included in the squad to face Portsmouth at the weekend, as is fellow new signing Danny Granqvist.

In other transfer news, Nathan Ellington's agent has confirmed that the Latics are in talks with West Bromwich Albion and he expects a deal to be concluded within 48 hours.

Finnigan told Sky Sports: "I can confirm discussions have taken place between the two clubs. We will see what happens in the next 48 hours, but I do expect some sort of outcome one way or another."
