Jarrett and McMillan net two year deals

By Paul Farrington
Thursday, 19th May 2005
Midfield dinamo Jason Jarrett and committed full back Steve McMillan have been handed new, two year deals whilst Gary Teale and Gary Walsh have been offered 12 month deals.
Jason Jarrett: Tipped to be a star in the Premiership
Jarrett, 25, suffered a broken leg in the pre-season game at Leigh RMI and recovered sharply to play a part in the Latics season.

He was superb in the final game of the season against Reading, where the Latics sealed promotion to the Premiership.

His hard-tackling, never-say-die attitude has won him admirers throughout the club.

I would tip JJ to suprise many next season in the Premiership.

Manager Paul Jewell said: "I thought it was the best game Jason [Jarrett] had ever had for Wigan against Reading in oru last game - and what a time to have it. He'd been out most of the season with an injury and had to be patient.

"He kept his head down, worked extremely hard and it was great to see.

"While Steve [McMillan] came in for the last five games and was excellent. He's been unfortunate with injuries while he's been at wigan, but he's an excellent footballer."

Full back McMillan has also been offered a two year deal, some-what suprisingly given his injury record.

When fit, McMillan is a premier quality left-back and had been keeping England Under 21 international, Leighton Baines out of the starting line-up.

Hopefully the former Motherwell player can re-pay his manager's faith in him and stay injury free next season.

Gary Teale, love him or hate him, has been offered a further twelve months. The frustrating winger, who has the ability to make it at the top, if not the application, will more than likely sign the deal.

John Filan's understudy, 37 year old Gary Walsh is also likely to be a pre-season training next season as he has been offered a further 12 moths aswell.

Jewell added: "The players whose contracts are up, their attitude and performances in training and matches were outstanding.

"No-one sulked and they were trying to impress to show they deserve new contracts.

"Hopefully the lads we offer contracts to will accept."

Meanwhile Gareth Whalley and Paul Mitchell have been told that they are free to look for a new club, and will not be offered a new deal.

Jewell said: "It's a certainty that the players we release will get fixed up with otehr clubs.

"If you get released it's better being from a club which has just got to the Premiership rather than one who has been relegated."

Good luck to both of these players with their respective future's, and there is no doubt that they will find new clubs.
