Teammate Kevin Kilbane has offered his support to Emile Heskey ahead of the weekend's international fixtures as the striker has received his call-up to the England squad.
Heskey has been tipped to play a key role in the gmaes with Israel and Russia and is likely to start up front with Newcaslte striker Michael Owen.Kilbane, the Republic of Ireland international said: "I am surprised it has taken so long for the manager to call Emile back into the squad. I really think he should have been back involved long before now.
"Emile was outstanding throughout the second half of last season and this season he has started so well. I think it is well deserved. Emile is a wonderful player and a wonderful talent.
"Emile's goalscoring record is never going to be great. But he is such a handful, and for what he does for the team in terms of creating chances he is invaluable, especially at international level."
