Latics linked with Venezuelan

Daniel Arismandi, currently plying his trade for South American club side Union Atletico Maracaibo is said to be close to a move to the JJB despite Latics boss Steve Bruce today professing his happiness with the squad.

The 26 year old forward has scored nine goals in twenty appearances for Venezuela and the story linking him with Wigan has been ion a few of the national papers.

However the only quote available on the story is rather vague. "A chance to play in England is unique," said Arismendi.

What is more, Steve Bruce has today confirmed that he is happy with his summer transfer dealings and feels he has added depth to the squad whilst managing to maintain his core players.

He told Sky Sports: "I think we're stronger with the four players we've brought in but the most important thing for me was to keep the nucleus of the team together.

"We wanted to tie up the likes of Kirkland, Scharner, Palacios and Valencia to new contracts, and we've managed to do that.

"The big worry is if you look at Fulham and Sunderland, teams that we finished above last year, and how much they've invested.

"But overall we're very pleased with what we've done, I think we're better equipped than we were last year, and that's all you can ask for."

Any move for Arismandi would surely signal the end for either Henri Camara or Antoine Sibierski, but it is unlikely that any move is on the cards with Bruce happy with what he's got.
