Latics boss Roberto Martinez is going to give goalkeeper Jurgen Macho and midfielder Modeste M'Bami one more reserve game before making a decision on whether to sign them.
Both players took part in the 4-3 reserve team defeat by Manchester City this week and are going to be given game time against Blackburn next weeek before a decision is made.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Martinez said: "At the moment, we'll assess it further down the line.
"I'm not going to make any decisions yet, I think it's too early and I will probably take advantage of the second game they can play in the reserves."
Former Marseille midfielder M'Bami spent the summer training with both Wolves and Portsmouth before being given a chance with the Latics.
Whilst former Sunderland goalkeeper Macho, is an international colleague of Paul Scharner with Austria and has also spent time with Chelsea. His previous club was AEK Athens who were defeated by Everton 4-0 in the Europa league last night.
