Panzer pops in

By Paul Farrington
Updated Monday, 4th February 2008

Nicknamed the Panzer, Norweigen defender Erik Hagen has today arrived in Wigan following his last minute loan move to the club from Zenit St Petersburg in Russia.

Hagen: Known as the Panzer
The move came as a total suprise to supporters with the defenders name not mentioned by any sections of the media prior to the signing. However the powerful defender is hoping to be a success with the club and earn a place in the starting eleven.

Hagen told the club's offical website: "I spoke to the National Coach who knows Steve Bruce very well who said not only was he a great manager but also a great human being.

"Steve Bruce is a good guy and it was very easy for me to say yes once I had spoken to him on the telephone and I'm looking forward to working with him."

"It's a dream come true.
Every footballer in the whole world would love to come to England and play in the Premier and I'm no different.

"I just want to play well for Wigan and now and hopefully work hard to maintain the Club's Premier League status."

Supporters are hoping that the Panzer grows to become as iconic a figure as Arjan De Zeeuw at the club, if that is possible.

Meanwhile, Ross McCormack is going to decide about his future between now and the end of the season, but is happy at Moterwell.

"I'd been saying for months that, no matter what happened during the transfer window, I was going to be here until the end of the season because I want to remain here," said the 21 year old striker.

There are also rumours that midfielder Jason Koumas turned down a move to AS Monaco before the close of the transfer window.
