Work on replacing the pitch at the JJB Stadium is well underway and the pitch is set to installed within the next week. Club chairman Dave Whelan spoke to the Wigan Observer this week.
He said: "The old pitch was doing us no favours. It was too bobby to pass the ball on and it was a significant factor in us losing the last two at the JJB."You'll see a big improvement when we get this new pitch. We like to pass and play at pace and you couldn't do that with the way pour old pitch was.
"We're a Premier League club, we've got a Premier League stadium and we need a Premier League pitch."
Whelan has splashed out £100,000 on the pitch itself and then another £190,000 on a cover to help keep the grass in tip-top condition.
What the chairman failed to reveal was that the Premier League had asked the Latics to get the pitch sorted after a series of complaints.
Hopefully with the new pitch in place in time for the Charlton game, the Latics can play the way they like to. Personally, I think it's time to evict to Klumps.
