Transfer Latest

By Paul Farrington
Sunday, 6th January 2008
Denny Landzaat has been linked with a move away from the club whilst Hibernian full back David Murphy is said to be subject to an enquiry from boss Steve Bruce.
Dutch giants Ajax and Feyenoord are believed to have been interested in Denny Landzaat but the former Ajax trainee is not for moving and is happy to fight the drop with Wigan.

New Latics boss Steve Bruce also wants to keep hold of his creative midfield player and this has forced Ajax to search elsewhere.

Technical Director Martin van Geel said: "At this stage we are reminded of the potential of Ajax, but also of the impossibilities. Most candidates are simply unattainable, or you are encountering many clubs who are reluctant to sell. The only solution for us is to try to be inventive."

Hibernian left back David Murphy
In terms of additions and Hibs left back David Murphy has been subject to an enquiry from Steve Bruce. Murphy's agent, the infamous Willie McKay said: "I understand Wigan have made an enquiry to Hibs for David Murphy. Steve Bruce is a big fan of David's and we will see what happens with the enquiry."

At just 23, the former Middlesbrough trainee could be the ideal long term future claiment to the left back position with Kilbane moved to his more familiar left wing role.

No fee has been discussed and with John Collins having left the Edinburgh club players may be more free to move elsewhere. However the Latics are likely to face competition for his signaturefrom Birmingham, Celtic and Rangers.

Also being linked with the club are Coventry City striker Michael Mifsud for a fee of around £3 million. The pint sized striker has been firing in the goals for the Sky Blues so far this term.

Arsenal duo of Armand Traore and Alexandre Song are also being linked with loan moves until the end of the season.

Meantime, former Birmingham goalkeepeing coach Nigel Spink has joined the club following the departure of Gary Walsh to Derby County.

Speaking about the appointment of Spink, with whom he worked at Birmingham for six years, Bruce said: "Nigel is a superb coach, a top lad and someone I know very well, having worked with him so closely at Birmingham. He has seen it and done it all as far as football goes and I am delighted to have him on board.

"I am sure Chris Kirkland, Mike Pollitt and Carlo Nash, along with the younger keepers at the club, will benefit hugely from having him on board because he is one of the best around and another fantastic addition to my back-room staff."
