Zamelek president throws his bricks out

By Paul Farrington
Updated Wednesday, 2nd July 2008

In an act similar to that of a small child who does not get his own way, Zamelek president, Mamdouh Abbas has denied star striker Amr Zaki his dream move to Wigan Athletic.

The 25 year old had been all set for his move to the Latics, initially on loan, with a view to a £6m permenant transfer but Abbas pulled the plug on the deal after losing out on Junior Agogo, who had been lined up to replace Zaki.

Understandably disappointed, Zaki said: "I was surprised when he (Abbas) told me that the club will not allow me to leave under any circumstances. He then got angry and swore at me. Things got worse when his bodyguards were about to beat me up."

Whilst his agent Nader Shawki added: "I have never witnessed something like that in football, it's a shame to see such acts coming from the president of a big club like Zamalek."
